Small cacti that colonize the north eastern states of Mexico.
They live in calcareous soils at altitudes from 300 to 3500m above s.l. Their taxonomic hstory was always very troubled. Most of these plants live in crevices of rocks where soil accumulates enough to ensure its survival.
Almost all have a tap-root that guarantees a sufficient accumulation of water for survival in an environment like that barren colonized by Turbinicarpus
